Clara Sciortino – A passion for social justice & needing to do more

Hello! My name is Clara Sciortino. I’m from Los Angeles, California, and I recently graduated from the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Washington. This year, I’m serving at Old First Reform Church in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. I’m working as a case manager for the church shelter program at Bethesda Project; this is a overnight shelter for chronically homeless men in Philadelphia and it serves some of the most vulnerable folks in the city.  I came here because I had developed a passion for social justice in college, and I felt like I needed to do something more. I have learned so much since I’ve been here; in only a few weeks, this has been a powerful, challenging, and humbling experience, and I’m excited to see what more this year will bring.
